The Aristocracy proudly arrives at its Twenty-second Interview. Our interviewees today are a mix of Death n'n Rool with a sound very similar to what we see in Swedish metal bands. But despite that, they are not Swedes by birth. They are Polish. The Polish band Bottlekopf. The band show for us your second album entitled The Jokes Are Over. The band have this formation:Marek Szefer popularly known as Chlosta on Guitar And Vocal,Radoslaw Surówka on Bass And Marcin Glanda on Drums.Marek Chlosta answer our questions.Let's go to one of their song so you can see this interview in all its emotions.
A1:Talking about the composition work in The Jokes Are Over?
Marek Szefer /Chlosta/:Work on the album began in 2017 and was completed in 2021.At that time, the band had its ups and downs due to problems with the bassist, or lack thereof. When it comes to recording the material, the vast majority of the recordings took place in our current rehearsal room, while the rest of the recordings were made in the now defunct Black Igloo studio in Mikołów. The music material on the album started to be created in the previous line-up, but only now has it been recorded. The lyrics for the songs "Six, Six" and "Seven And A Half" were written by Sewko or Snake Eyes, while the rest is by me
A2:What kind of Personal Struggles band put in this new album?
Marek Szefer /Chlosta/:Addictions, diseases, fighting your inner demons, depression, loneliness.Probably,I missed something, but mainly these climates.
A3:Why the band say your style is Death n´n Roll?
Marek Szefer /Chlosta/:Basically,we don't try to pigeonhole, but our style is often compared to death'n'roll.I admit that you can hear a lot of influences from this style there, although I think that we are increasingly fleeing to other areas of music.
A4:Is more easy or more pratical play in powertrio band?
Marek Szefer /Chlosta/:Harder, but more practical. Everyone has to give 100% of themselves and there is no room for stumbles, which motivates each of us to work harder on our role in the team.
A5:Explain the eight song,please?
Marek Szefer /Chlosta/:I think that the author of the text will say the best.Sewko:The text is about stereotypical thinking, about walking down well-worn paths, repeating nonsense on other nonsense, instead of thinking for yourself. If you hear 66, you immediately think 666.
A6:Who is the creeper?
Marek Szefer /Chlosta/:Creeper is about a person who never gets out of a state of intoxication.
A7: Some literature or film inspire the band?
Marek Szefer /Chlosta/:The lyrics for the song "Seven And A Half" is a direct reference to the movie "Being John Malkovich".
A8:How is Bottlekopf different from your previous bands?
Marek Szefer /Chlosta/:Very much, because the bands I have played with so far have been moving in the style of technical death metal or black metal.
A9:How band arrive to Wydawnictwo Muzyczne Psycho?
Marek Szefer /Chlosta/:Times are not conducive to playing music, touring and also not good times for those who release music. After a long search for a record company to release our upcoming album, we bounced off the wall. Then the idea came to us to contact Robert from Wydawnictwo Muzyczne Psycho, who was releasing our debut album "Absolutely Nothing". The conversations went well and here we are.
A10:What´s the idea behind artwork´s album?
Marek Szefer /Chlosta/:In general, the idea for graphics revolves around a bottle, which played a significant role in the early stage of the band's existence. The graphics that appear in the booklet are a direct reference to individual pieces.
A11:Literally Speaking.Is the world ridiculous ?
Marek Szefer /Chlosta/:.In many ways, yes.Unfortunately,if you want to somehow normally exist in this world and do what you love, you have to learn to function in it, which is often not so easy.
A12:Why the band have this name?
Marek Szefer /Chlosta/: I remember that we came up with this idea during one of the rehearsals. We were all intoxicated then and we were looking for a name that would reflect the band's current rock'n'droll approach to life. After a few unsuccessful ideas, the right one appeared and it was a combination of the English word "bottle" with the German "kofp" and was supposed to refer directly to the neck of the bottle.
A13:The band feel differences between Absolutely Nothing and now in The Jokes Are Over?
Marek Szefer /Chlosta/:We hear a significant difference, because the material has been more polished and thoughtful. Everything is connected as a logical whole and touches upon topics important to all of us.
A14:This album is conceptual?yes or no and why?
Marek Szefer /Chlosta/:It is not a concept album, although there is one element that repeats itself in many places. The bottles are that element.
A15:Is the men an experience that going wrong?
Marek Szefer /Chlosta/:Everything in the world has gone wrong in some ways and there are good and bad sides to it.
A16:What justice the band want in second song?
Marek Szefer /Chlosta/:The song tells about the injustice of this world and asks a rhetorical question about who will be responsible for it all.
A17:Based on the songs on the full album, is it better to think of the human being as agony than animal for health?
Marek Szefer /Chlosta/: I don't quite understand the question, but my guess is whether the songs represent life or the human condition as agony / anguish and not as positive, healthy or enjoyable experience. I think the songs on the album show this positive side of the coin, tell a story that may warn a potential audience against making a mistake, making a bad decision, etc. Everything is a matter of interpretation and in fact each listener will perceive it in their own way, but we did not intend to contain only negative overtones in the lyrics.
