Well,Friends Of Aristocracy!
We speak again of our newsroom, where in a little while, we will have in all its emotions, the interview 182 of the Aristocracy. This time, we talked to a Swedish band that presents a new moment for itself. A band that makes its first conceptual album. The evolution of the band is something that is clear in the first moments of the album.Another interesting fact is their change of vocalist for this album combined with a powerful atmosphere for the album. It is evident that Black Metal is their style and like all bands of this style, the atmosphere is a fundamental part. But, for this band this is truer than ever.Packed into a wonderful symphonic structure.Today, we will speak with the band Mist Of Misery and who present us their fourth album entitled Severance. impressive band. Let's go to one of their songs for this unprecedented interview with the Brazilian press to take place.
A1:Talking about the composition work in Severanc?
Mist Of Misery:The composing has mainly been done by Mortuz & Tenebris. We tend to wrire the majority of the guitars, bass and drums together to form a ground structure for each song. Then Mortuz composes the orchestrations when the majority of each song´s basic structure has been established.
A2:What kind of symphonic ideas did the band pursue on this album?
Mist Of Misery:Our main idea was to give this album a more robust and living orchestration than on any of our previous albums, where the symphonic parts take on more of a lead role so to say, bringing vibrant and beautiful melodies to life on strings, brass and woodwinds more than just simply on guitars.
A3:How are the progressions made for this album?
Mist Of Misery:With focus on the storytelling, more advanced orchestrations, shorter and more driving songs that don´t repeat themselves to infinity. And also a higher level of sound quality over all, not to mention a more organic sound over all with less focus on extreme limiting and more room for the songs to "breathe" and swell in places where it´s suitable.
A4:What kind of subject don´t deserve a Mist Of Misery song?
Mist Of Misery:We generally deal with subjects that involve depressive or melancholy themes and personal misery, so I guess everything that deviates from that is out of the question for us.
A5:What evolutions do you want to bring on this album?
Mist Of Misery:Like I stated earlier; a more dynamic and organic sound, combined with a wider variety of instruments, all collaborating to bring forth the most unique and beautiful sounds.
A6:Some literature or film inspire the band?
Mist Of Misery:Mist of Misery has always been inspired by different movie music and game themes. Different literature has inspired the lyrics, mostly various poetry.
A7:How is Mist Of Misery different from your previous bands?
Mist Of Misery:Mist of Misery is unlike any other bands and we are very proud of that fact.
A8:What kind of downfalls does the band address in this last song?
Mist Of Misery:It describes the never ending cycle our character in the story relives. At the end he comes to the realisation that he has lived this "loop of hell" many, many times before and that there is nothing he can do to escape it. He is forever trapped in an unalterable cycle of misery and he is forced to relive it all over and over again.
A9:How band arrive to Non Serviam Records?
Mist Of Misery:We were looking for a label that would be interested in collaborating with us, and one that is passionate about the music and want to give us their very best and most dedicated support and we found that Non Serviam Records were just that, and so we made a deal with them.
A10:What did the new singer bring to the band?
Mist Of Misery:Änglamakaren, the new vocalist, brings a much wider and dynamic approach to the vocals, which we think is something this album really needed.
A11:Why is the atmosphere of the story important to understanding the album?
Mist Of Misery:Because this is a concept album where all songs are connected and in order to fully appreciate the whole story, you need to listen to the album from start to finish. If you have a grasp of what the album is about, then it will make a whole lot more sense to you as a listener. We recommend listening to it from start to finish and try to focus a bit on the story itself and not just the music to fully appreciate this album.
A12:Why is sadness the guiding thread of this band?
Mist Of Misery:The world is a really sad place and that´s something we like to express in our music and something we´ve always done.
A13:Is the story you tell on this album based on a true event?
Mist Of Misery:No,it is a completely fictional story that we wrote.
A14:Why the band have this name?
Mist Of Misery:Because a very long time ago, when we first formed the band,it reflected the kind of music we had envisioned to create and it still does.
A15:The band feel differences between Unalterable and now in Severance?
Mist Of Misery:I would assume most people who listen to the album will notice quite the difference, yes. This album, as stated earlier, focuses more on telling a complete story. It has shorter songs and more heavily relies on the orchestral parts, as they are very often leading instruments on this album compared to Unalterable where those elements were more like "support instruments".The atmosphere in itself is different as well, as we wanted to make an album that doesn’t focus too much on repetitive riffs or melodies but rather a more fast paced and varied album where each song is specifically made to match flawlessly with the part of the story - the lyrical part, that each song has been designated to.
A16:Can we say that Severance represents a new phase of the band?if so,why?
Mist Of Misery:Yes,you could say that.We fully intend on creating more story-based albums, with more focus on the album seen as a story, rather than individual songs brought together to make an album. We will continue on this path with more refined, intricate and interesting orchestrations, combined with more melodies and less repetition.
