Well,Friends Of Aristocracy!
We speak again of our newsroom, where in a little while, we will have in all its emotions, the interview 188 of the Aristocracy. This time, we'll talk to a German band that abuses Death Metal in a murderous and brutal way. But, their way is a little different even if their influences are extreme American.Have no fear, their quality grows with each album and you will see their capacity. We are talking about the band Terrible Sickness and they show us their third album entitled Flesh for the Insatiable. We want to thank Eike, the band's bassist for his work over the years in his band and for answering our questions and also a thank you to the Italian producer The Metallist.Let's go to one of their songs for this unprecedented interview to happen.
A1:Let’s talk about the composition work in “Flesh For The Insatiable”?
Eike:The writing for the new album started in 2017 an was finished around late 2021.Covid really gave us kind of a setback because we couldn't rehearse and play for over a year I think and we had to re-learn all the songs we already finished beside rehearsing new songs we wrote at home at the time.
A2:What kind of grindcore elements included the band in this album?
Eike:Very few if any.I would say our latest album is a pure old-school death metal album.Of course we use blast beats a lot but that's not a Grindcore exclusive.
A3:Some literature or film inspire the band?
Eike:In the past,we drew a lot of inspiration from horror and gore movies like I spit on your Grave” for example. The lyrics I contributed were also loosely inspired by films and literature about war, plague and crime but also by true crime and history documentaries.
A4:Whose character does the character seek revenge in the eighth song?
Eike:The song is basically about a victim of physical and sexual abuse that becomes an abuser himself/herself. It just deals with the fact that most perpetrators also have been victims at some point and the duality of most things we encounter in our lives. The lyrics are also very loosely inspired by classic Tarantino movies like “Pulp Fiction” or “Kill Bill”.
A5:How did the band arrive to MDD Records?
Eike:We applied, they liked our stuff and signed us.Plain and simple :D
A6:Is the world a brain-dead patient?
Eike:I'm not sure but I think society is because there is so much collective stupidity at the moment.
A7:What perverse situations inspired this album?
Eike:Pretty much anything a human mind can come up with.
A8:What´s the idea behind the artwork?
Eike:There was no big idea or concept behind the artwork. We gave Daniel “Bart” Bartell just the Album title and some song titles we had back then and he started working. As far as I can tell it is based around the concept of eating/consuming/feasting and we absolutely like what he came up with.
A9:Why does the band have this name?
Eike:Well, a band needs a name.Doesn't it? I think our drummer's girlfriend came up with that name back in the days when the band was just a 2 piece and the guys thought it was a cool name back then and I still think it is! and kept it.
A10:Who would be the immortal dethroned in the seventh song?
Eike:I didn't write lyrics for that one but if I had to guess I would say the “immortal” is a metaphor for organized religion in general. As far as I know, the idea is that all religions “sell” and promise immortality in any way to their disciples, so to expose these religions to the truth, their concept of worship and indoctrination needs to be abandoned – i.e. dethroned.
A11:What kind of subject doesn´t deserve to be in a Terrible Sickness song?
Eike::I never thought about that to be serious.I guess we are open for everything as long as it sounds good and fits the mood of the song.
A12:How is Terrible Sickness different from your previous bands?
Eike:In my and Jens' case it is definitely more technical and challenging to play than the stuff we did and still do with Putrefaction.I also feel less limited on my instrument because I just play the Bass and do some backing vocals in Terrible whereas I have to do bass and lead vocals in my other band.
A13:Is this album conceptual?
Eike:No, it's not and I don’t think that we will ever do a concept album, at least in the near future. The whole idea just doesn't appeal to us.
A14:I know the band learned a lot from American extreme metal. But how does it differ from German extreme metal?
Eike:During the past couple of years, the “Swedish” Boss HM 2 Sound was very popular and has been adapted by many bands in Germany. We kinda stayed away from that “trend” which I think helped us to differ from other bands in our scene.
A15:What is and how to fight the terrible disease of this century?
Eike:Misinformation and collective stupidity. If we knew how to ultimately deal with those issues,I guess we would be already nobel price winners by now.
A16:The band feel differences between “Feasting On Your Perdition” and now “Flesh For The Insatiable”?
Eike:Definitely yes.First of all because of the line up rotations that happened after the “Feasting” Album and also because of the time that has passed since our last effort 5 years ago.I also think that “Flesh” sounds more homogeneous and less modern than it's predecessor.
A17:Is it on purpose or a coincidence that your albums start with the letter F?
Eike:Yes,we thought it might be an interesting hook up to start every album with the same letter,so after “First Rape, Still Sexy”,we followed that “F“-path, as well as we have not yet made any title tracks to either of our records.
