Well,Friends of Aristocracy!
We speak again of our newsroom, where in a little while, we will have in all its emotions, the interview 194 of the Aristocracy.This time, we talk to an American band but with some members from Ukraine who demonstrate a scream of fury, rage soaked in raw and scalding emotions.A savagery backed by torture and confusion, it's quite insane to listen to the band, but you won't regret it. The only flaw is that we're talking about an EP and not a full album, but it's addictive in the same way.We're talking about the American band Sermon Of Mockery and this is the debut EP entitled Crippler Crossface Murder Suicide, we want to thank the band and the Producer Imperative for introducing us to the band and also for answering our humble but important questions.
A1:Talking about the composition work in Crippler Crossface Murder Suicide?
Johnny Paoline:Lev and Oleh over in the Ukraine had these songs written and recorded for a while. Lev and his vocalist Vitaly of Ezophogothmia who is on backs up vox to the title track sent me the tracks to fit vocals over them. I had nothing going on and I was not involved with Mortal Decay at this time.
A2:What kind of complexities inspire this EP?
Johnny Paoline:Well,I’m in the USA the other band members are in the Ukraine.We still to this day never met in person.This whole EP was done over the internet. Right after this was recorder complications began with Russia and the Ukraine. These tracks stayed buried on a hard drive somewhere over there for over 8 years. I thought these tracks were lost forever. You cannot even imaging the complexities behind these EP. I could write you a book on them all.
A3:Can we say that the songs on this EP have a psychological bias?
Johnny Paoline:No,I wouldn’t say that.That’s way too deep.It just a good old fashion fun of a death metal ep.
A4:Some literature or film inspire the band?
Johnny Paoline:I couldn’t say that about the inspiration of the band.It is Levs side project that he created musically with Oleh but I can say that some film absolutely inspired some of my lyrics.
A5:What makes Mortal Decay different from Sermon Of Mockery?
Johnny Paoline:The sound, vibe, and image is different.It’s a different form of BDM then Mortal. I recorded my vocals on my own here with the thought in mind to make them sound like myself but also make them a little different and not exactly like Mortal Decay.I feel I pulled it off and people who don’t know it’s me yet will say hey he sounds like Johnny of Mortal but in his own way then they read the cover and say holy shit it is Johnny of Mortal Decay..{haha…}
A6:What heavy content helped to inspire this EP?
Johnny Paoline:I wouldn’t say any heavy content inspired us as a whole other then our love for heavy and brutal music. Lev and I are fans of each others work who met through Vitaly vocalist of Their band Ezophogothmia. We never met in person but we often chat and email online. Lev and guitarist Oleh had these great killer tunes written and they asked me to do vocals. At that time I wasn’t doing anything. I was near 10 years away from the scene and missing it a lot so I was like hell ya let’s do this. I recorded all my vocals back in 2014.
A7:The band pays homage to a fighter turned assassin. But did this stem from a genuine interest in his history or a passion for boxing as a sport?
Johnny Paoline:That story very interesting it was also a tragic horrible horrible true story.That dude was literally insane he was a total quack an asshole who lost his mind. yes I am into wrestling he was one of my favorite technical wrestlers.I’m a father myself and that story really affected me. However I like when bands write about really fucked up true scenarios especially making light of it but serious for the sport of Death Metal.Macabre do it the best. Macabre are my favorite lyricist in the scene they crack me up too. I love silly comedy watch and subscribe to my YouTube you will see my stuff that I do too {haha.} I also like serious mature brutal lyrics. My favorite of that style is my drummer and founder of Mortal Decay Anthony Ipri. He is the a Jedi Master of all that.
A8:How is Sermon Of Mockery different from your previous bands?
Johnny Paoline: Well earlier in question 5,I explained how Sermon is different from Mortal Decay. Let’s go down my other list of projects.Chopcore was a hard core band with elements of metal and death metal in it. MC JohnsterMonster Superfonz,thats currently is my old school rap project and Rivers of Ash,that is my current thrash death metal metalcore crossover project. They are all drastically different forms of music.
A9:How band know about The Imperative?
Johnny Paoline:I don’t feel we had or done anything imperative.Lev just had these cool songs done and wanted to put something together.
A10:How band arrive to Comatose Music?
Johnny Paoline:I wanted to shop Comatose right away but this project is Levs baby and he had other plans for this record internationally overseas.I bugged him a few times to let me shop Comatose. 8 years later after Levs plans fell through and the tensions in his country broadened he gave me permission to shop it.Here in the USA Comatose Music is the best hard working label right now who property market in BDM and BDM only If I’m doing BDM I want it on Comatose music. Kinda like if I had my rap project going with Superfonz back in the 80s I’d want it on DefJam haha and like,I always wanted my former late 90s hardcore project Chopcore on Victory records because when you sign to the proper label with the market you cater to the proper audience.
A11:The band plains to do an full album?
Johnny Paoline:There has never been talk of a full length but who is to say.I like the idea of keep on doing eps especially with todays times or at least here in America shorts are the current trend in music and video, everything is a series everything is a YouTube short bands are releasing one to two tracks at a time and it’s cool, I didn’t like EPs when I was younger but hell who has time for a full movie to watch or album to hear these days.{hahaha!}
A12:What´s the idea behind artwork´s album?
Johnny Paoline:Well like,we discussed earlier in question 7,this is the title track of.The album and a visual of the plot of that terrible true story. I must the master artist is Jon Zig he is amazing and the best artist in this scene.
A13:This EP is conceptual?
Johnny Paoline:Lyrically,Absolutely and each song lyrically individually is.
A14:Why the band have this name?
Johnny Paoline:Well for a little while there was a trend in the scene of bands naming themselves after legendary death metal albums so Lev chimed in on this and named us Sermon or Mockery.I have always been friendly with Chris of the almighty Pyrexia so I emailed him asking him about this per Levs request and Chris wrote me back and couldn’t of been more cooler and supportive about the idea totally giving us his blessing and encouraging it.
A15:What titanic proportions did you seek to create in this EP?
Johnny Paoline:Just to get out there another hard written document stapled Death Metal record. Horns up to y’all, thank you..
