Black Stone Church And Dark Vistas

Well,friends of Aristocracy!

We speak again of our newsroom, where we will begin in all its emotions, the special eighty-first interview of the Aristocracy. In 2002, a young heavy metal fan discovers the CD Dead Unburied by the Swedish band Paganizer. This young man discovered that there was a new fighter in his saga in the metal universe. After Ozzy Osbourne, Chuck Schuldiner, Kerry King, Bruce Dickinson, King Diamond and more recently, Cardinal Copia from the band Ghost who truly calls himself Tobias Forge. This fighter is called Roger Johansson. To the delight of the fan, this fighter not only stayed in Paganizer, he founded new projects. One of these side projects was called until 2020, Black Stone Church. Today, this side band is called Furnace and the fan turned philosopher has the chance to perform his Big dream. Chat with one of your favorite fighters. The band show your third album entitled Stellarum. My name is felipe, a fan of Roger //Rogga\\ Johansson, I am the owner of the aristocracy and I present the band Furnace. the name of the band's second album was the band's old name. Also, the band's first two albums are made within the same 2020. Let's go to their song now. Before, this very special chat for me! Not just, because I like it from the work of Rogga or Roger, but, because, I'm sure it was well done besides thanking Davide Pulito for giving me the opportunity to speak with one of my most favorite combatants in metal. Thank you so much indeed!

FELIPE ARISTOCRACIA 1: I always wanted to do an interview with you Rogga, I´m your fan!

Let’s talk about the composition work in “Stellarium”?

Rogga: Thanx man, thats great to hear indeed! Yeah lets do just that! Ill be sharing the questions with Peter, as he is suited more than me to answer some of them.

FELIPE ARISTOCRACIA 2:What were the reasons for a trilogy to be made?

Rogga:We had so much music, and so many ideas, so very early we decided to make a trilogy, to make the story really get used to its full potential way. Its a great story and over the length of three albums it really gets elaborated well.

FELIPE ARISTOCRACIA 3:Before Furnace, the band name was Black Stone Church. Why you changed the band's name?

Rogga:As the album was also to be named Black stone church i wanted something different, and the name Furnace I already had, and had a killer logo done for too. So we used it and I think it works great indeed.

FELIPE ARISTOCRACIA 4:If this album has more references to Lovecraft, which other writers influenced the band?

Peter: I am influenced by a wide variety of authors. During the writing of the concept I was reading a lot of Philp K. Dick, which might have influenced the story. I also enjoy Murakami a lot, with his realistic but somewhat otherworldly stories. Ray Bradbury is another “go to” author for great stories that are very easy to adopt to lyrics.

FELIPE ARISTOCRACIA 5:What´s the idea behind the artwork?

Peter: We wanted to portray the main character being on a space shuttle watching the extinction of mankind from above. As the story unfolds, those two events do not occur at the same time but I think it is still a great visual. We also wanted a completely different artwork style, making the artwork on all three records very different.

FELIPE ARISTOCRACIA 6:What are the most influential dystopias for the band and on this album?

Peter: The main catalyst for the outcome of the story on this album is “Solaris”, the old Soviet movie. I was watching it with some friends and realized that it would be the perfect side story going on in space. However, unlike the movie, the collision with an alien lifeform on the album seems to be dreamed up by the main character (sorry for the spoiler…).

Another great dystopia that has influenced me is “Kallocain” by Swedish author Karin Boye about a totalitarian society, it actual predates “1984” by nine years. I am not sure how widespread it is internationally, but it is a great read.

FELIPE ARISTOCRACIA 7:Do you consider yourself a workaholic?

Rogga: No I dont really, I just work fast and thats why I make so much crap haha.

FELIPE ARISTOCRACIA 8:How is Furnace different from your previous bands?

Rogga: Id say the concept lyrically, and also the sound being more melodic and especially the drumming being more heavy metal drumming, and not extreme metal drumming.

FELIPE ARISTOCRACIA 9:Is a power trio a more easy or more practical band?

Yeah in a way indeed, its less people doing the deciding, so Id say yes.

FELIPE ARISTOCRACIA 10:How did band arrive to MDD Records?

Rogga: I was talking to MArkus there regarding other projects, and I thought that Furnace might fit well there, and after he heard the album he agreed fully. He really loved the album.

FELIPE ARISTOCRACIA 11:Who would be brother J?

Peter: For the third part of the trilogy we needed a name for the protagonist from “Dark Vistas”. Being a big fan of Kafka, who named his main character “K.” as few times, we ultimately decided on going with “J.” for “Johansson” but also it would sound good as “Jay”

FELIPE ARISTOCRACIA 12:What would today's Furnace say to the young Black Stone Church?

Rogga: Haha not much I think, as its only a couple years ago.

FELIPE ARISTOCRACIA 13:What kind of subject doesn´t deserve to be in a Furnace song?

Rogga: Dragons and demons and that sort of fantasy I dont think would fit us at all.

FELIPE ARISTOCRACIA 14:Of the best known bands, Paganizer is best known. What are the differences between Furnace and Paganizer?

Rogga: For me its a lot, Paganizer is more classic death metal, less melodic and a four piece.
