Aristocracy arrives in its Fourth Interview with the American Band Nightwraith and the band shows us their second album entitled Offering. The band is formed by:Benjamin Pitts on Vocal And Guitar,Igor Panasewicz on Guitar,Caleb Tardio on Keyboards,Jerry Hilger on Bass and Isidro Soto on Drums. All band answer our questions.Let´s go to the interview in all our emotions.
A1:Talking About The Composition Work in Offering?
Nightwraith:Offering is a collection of ideas and riffs that I have been wanting to use for a long time. All of the material was written on guitar and the rest of the instruments/vocal ideas were built on top of the initial laye.During the pandemic and lockdowns, I spent a lot of time compiling these ideas, learning how to use Pro Tools software, and recording demos for the album. The songs themselves are written in a pretty straightforward 'verse/chorus/bridge' format, and we find this makes a stronger impact for the listener when they can circle back to previous themes in the song.
A2:What Is The Idea Of Death Band Put In This Album?
Nightwraith:We only have one song that is about death,Maranasati. It is a reference to the Buddhist death meditations. The idea is that if you spend time contemplating your own mortality, it will help ease your passage into the death realm. In Western culture,we tend to ignore these types of unpleasant' thoughts which can actually lead to a very traumatic transition when we pass.
A3:What Band Means With Triumphant Anthems?
Nightwraith:Triumphant Anthems' are happening when the guitars are playing in harmony, predominantly in a major scale or Lydian mode. The title track Offering is a triumphant anthem from start to finish and is inspired by Wyld Stallyns, one of the great rock bands of our time.
A4:Why The Band Finish with Black And Doom Side Of Band?
Nightwraith:We had some doom riffs and black metal riffs on the last album but never considered ourselves a black metal band or a doom band. We never wanted to lock ourselves into a genre and feel obligated to write a certain type of music. We enjoy complete musical freedom, hence the addition of a keyboard/synth player.
A5:Some Literature Or Film Inspire The Band?
Nightwraith:There is a book that has inspired some of our material titled The Secret of Ages" by Manley P. Hall.We also collectively love classic films like Space Oddessy 2001 and Nosferatu.
A6:How is Nightwraith Different From Your Previous Bands?
Nightwraith:Our previous bands were focused on writing fast, heavy, and complicated music. We still really enjoy music like that and all of our previous band and make or made some really cool music, but we wanted to do something that we had not attempted yet with Nightwraith,we want to focus on more straightforward songwriting and show more restraint with our instruments.
A7:What´s the Idea Behind Artwork´s album?
Nightwraith:We were fortunate to commission artwork from Jerianne Fulton who is a very talented artist, and we wanted the cover to represent elements of our new sound, especially since the organ gives off such a spooky vibe. The visual concept is 'a temple in the wilderness to make offerings for to the Gaia and of course,we had to include Pan who has unofficially become the band's mascot.
A8:Why The Band Have This Name?
Nightwraith:No good reason for the band name, other than it seemed to be fitting for our sound and had not yet been taken by another band.
A9:Why The Band Say Is A Deceptive World?
Nightwraith:The idea of a 'deceptive world' is relatable across all regions and nationalities. Everyone witnesses greed and corruption within their respective political and religious organizations and this is what we are referring to.
A10:What Kind Of Subject Don´t Deserve a Nightwraith Song?
Nightwraith:I don't think many subjects are completely off the table, but I can tell you that we would not write about something unless we can stand behind it 100%. Our subject matter must insightful, appropriate and morally sound.
A11:The Band Feel Differences Between Self Titled Album And Now in Offering?
Nightwraith:There were about four years between the writing process of 's/t 'and 'Offering'. During that time we grew as musicians/songwriters and saw the world change in drastic ways, so we approached Offering with a totally different perspective. There were a lot of good ideas in the first record, but we all agree that Offering is more deliberate and consistent as an album.
A12:What Band Want Offering In This Album?
Nightwraith:We honestly just want people to enjoy our music because we truly enjoy writing and playing these songs.Even if only a small number of people get some level of happiness or inspiration from this album, that is all we really want out of it.
A13:This Album Is Conceptual?Yes Or No And Why?
Nightwraith:It is conceptual at least lyrically. There are a lot of Eastern themes and Buddhist philosophies in this album that are woven through the fabric of the songs. The lyrics are also a personal reflection of what I was experiencing during the writing process. For example, our single "Hedonic Adaptation" is about my own frustrations with my career at the time and how I was determined to create a better situation for myself. I quit my job, took some classes and started a new career path.It was a scary process but if I didn't take that leap of faith,I would likely still be in my previous career and unhappy.
A14:What´s Bands Influence Ours?
Nightwraith:Our list of influences is wide as we all come from different musical backgrounds. Everything from Venom to Jaco Pastorius,Carcass to Deep Purple,Sepultura to Pink Floyd, Nuclear Assault to Lonnie Smith, Yob to Pat Metheney, Merciful Fayte to Porcupine Tree, etc.
A15:Before Music,What The Bands Loves To Doing?
Nightwraith:Outside of music,I enjoy backpacking/hiking/camping and cooking. Igor is also a great cook and is the owner of a popular Arepas restaurant, which is a type of street food from his home country of Venezuela.
A16:Based On The Songs Of The Album And Your Own Opinion,Is It Better To Think The Human Being As Agony Than An Animal For Health?
Nightwraith:I think that pain is part of the human experience and without it,it would be more difficult to enjoy the better parts of life.
