Interview here!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MlTB59c_mcM A1:Talking about work with this album? Jimbo Mäkeläinen:It was my big dream to make this album like it is now. Some of the songs in the album I have written some long ago, some of them are fresher. I wanted to have good musicians to this album, and I think I succeeded quite a well. Kari Riihimäki is an old friend of mine, and I have played with him in many projects during the years. Jari Riitala is a brilliant bass player, and I asked him to play all the tracks with fretless bass. Timo Haanpää also played some very nice guitars on the album. A story of the vocalists is a little bit different story, I’ll talk more of this topic some later. A2:This album have a name?
Jimbo Mäkeläinen:The name of the album is simply “Jimbo’s GARAGE”. A3:How come the band arrive to Inverse Records? Jimbo Mäkeläinen:One of my vocalists, Peter James Goodman, recommended me to send some material to Inverse Records. They liked the material, and we started to co-operate. A4:Is it complicated or laborious three vocalists? Jimbo Mäkeläinen:No. That was my idea to have different colours to my band by having 3 quite different vocalists. The voices of them all work also perfectly together, it’s easy to hear in many songs, when they play chorus verses together. A5:What kind of themes are part of the album? Jimbo Mäkeläinen:I think the album is quite a versatile whole. There is no particular theme in the album, the songs are just perfect ones to my mental landscape. A6:Why the band have this name? Jimbo Mäkeläinen:I think it has something to do with my special hobby. I have two Porsche cars in my garage. Another one is 911 Carrera 4, and the second one is 40 years old 911 SC Targa. IT’s quite a rare car, you can find it on the album back cover. A7:What´s the idea behind artwork´s album? Jimbo Mäkeläinen:I wanted to have a painted cover art to my album. My guitar player Kari Riihimäki had seen nice works from an artist from Scotland, Mr. Charlie Roy. I asked him to make the art for the album and he wanted to work with us. A8:What theme would never be part of a Jimbo's Garage song? Jimbo Mäkeläinen:A politics, for instance. It’s not my thing, too much dirty games. A9:Can we say that band still have the soul of the garage bands? I think you got the point. It really has some primitive touch and power of garage bands, but maybe a bit further processed. A10:How to give that Central European disco hall atmosphere? Jimbo Mäkeläinen:It comes from my keyboards working with my drum tracks. It’s always very easy to play in my timing, when I play keyboards on my drums. The drum beat with the disco hall keyboards is the major point to a song “Now We’re Strangers”. A11:What hookiest elements band use in this album? Jimbo Mäkeläinen:A strong co-operation between guitars and keyboards. I think it’s a big major thing in Jimbo’s GARAGE sound. A12:Some literature or film inspire the band? Tex Willer cartoons! (Laughs) A13:Are Ironcross\Lordi bands that you still have respect or admiration for despite not belonging to their universe? Jimbo Mäkeläinen:Yes, they are good bands both. I’m very happy I have been playing with them, and of course all the members of those bands are good friends of mine. A14:In addition to the project being yours and merit and the people who work with you, does anyone in your path deserve thanks or gratitude besides yourself? Jimbo Mäkeläinen:Of course. All members of “my small orchestra” deserves a very big thank you. I’m very proud of them and their work for the album. A15:Do your professional or personal lives help or hinder some of your musical inspirations? Jimbo Mäkeläinen:I think my professional life helps to run and manage a band. It’s always good to have a certain goal, and make ones best.
