Thirty-Seventh Interview With Finnish Band Zombie Rodeo

Well, friends of the Aristocracy or Lipeverse Aristocrat! We are talking about the house of the owner of this bagasse, that is, myself. We will now start this chat still in Finland in all its emotions. With a Stoner Metal band called Zombie Rodeo. This is the third EP by the band called The Eyes Are Set Uppon You.Let's go to one of their songs before the chat, but let's introduce our interviewees.Mikka Partonen on Vocal And Guitar,Mikka Rissanen on Guitar,Mikko Puhakka on Bass and Mikko Mustonen on Drums.

A1:Talking about the composition work in The Eyes Are Set Upon You?

Zombie Rodeo:Miika did the basic composition,Mika composed guitar solos, etc.Mikko Puhakka did the lyrics and the whole band made arrangements.

A2:How come emerged the invite to Suvi Wirman and Kari Huikuri?

Zombie Rodeo:Suvi Wirman is an old friend who we knew from another project where she helped out some years ago. When the idea to add some female vocals to some of the songs her name came first to our minds.Kari is also an old friend who also helped out with our previous release with all recording related stuff. And as Kari has a good talent with creating good melodies with the keyboard fitting the music.

A3:What´s the idea behind artwork´s album?

Zombie Rodeo:The owl has been a common figure for the pervious two releases and we wanted to keep it that way on this release also. However with some decaying for the worst. Lets see what the future holds this poor bastard. However the original idea of the owl is long since forgotten.

A4:Some Literature or film inspire the band?

Zombie Rodeo:Lovecraft, Philip K. Dick and B-grade exploitation movies from the 70's and 80's in general. Unspeakable Fathoms is partially directly inpired by the 2001 horror movie "Dagon".

A5:How is Zombie Rodeo different from your previous bands?

Zombie Rodeo:This band is meant to combine different ideas more boldly than in our other projects.

A6:What Unspeakable Fathoms band talk in song four?

Zombie Rodeo:This is a H.P Lovecraft reference. Stuff is always "unspeakable" in Lovecraft short stories. And in this case the unspeakable is the ocean depths.

A7:Is there a Blas of Sludge in band sound?

Zombie Rodeo:Not much anymore. We didn’t even use fuzz pedals in the studio on guitars. We wanted a clear 90s metal sound that we thought was better suited to these songs.

A8:Why the band have this name?

Zombie Rodeo:It was a silly idea from one ex member of the band and is now our burden to the end. Maybe not exactly in line with the band’s current music today. On the other hand, it’s just the name of the band.

A9:How band arrive to Inverse Records?

Zombie Rodeo:Inverse in a rather nice platform for small and new bands to have their music spread all over. There would be quite a handfull of work to get the promotion on the same level if you’d do it all by yourself.

A10:Outside of Music, what the bands loves to doing?

Zombie Rodeo:Naturally, everyone likes music (listening and seeing bands). Other hobbies are very different, from motorsports to hiking, etc.

A11:What´s bands influence ours?

Zombie Rodeo:These albums have influenced this ep:Paradise Lost: Draconian Times Tiamat: Wildhoney, Rotting Christ: A Dead Poem Sentenced: Amok,Old Man’s Child: The Pagan Prosperity.

A12:This album is conceptual?yes or no and why?

Musically, we wanted a clear beginning and an end. If you listening it very carefully, you will find similar melodies in the first and last songs. However, the answer to the question is no and the reason for this is that we did not want to do that.Lyrically the album is not a concept album.

A13:The band feel differences between Cult Leader and now in The Eyes Are Set Upon You?

Zombie Rodeo:It is true that these works have a different feel. A different singer,a different sound has been fetched in the studio.

A14:What kind of subject don´t deserve a Zombie Rodeo Song?

Zombie Rodeo:Of course stuff, where innocent people or animals get hurt does not deserve a song from us. Also do not want to dive into any othe controversial matters. This is just heavy metal after all. Also now the lyrics need to portray a certain psychedelic, horror or sci-fi story. True to the traditions of the genre. So mostly nothing apart from that. No lovesongs, etc.

A15:Is this world is ridiculous?

Zombie Rodeo:We're not sure what you mean. A lot of bad and crazy things are happening in the world right now. For example, Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

A16:-Based on the songs of EP and your own opinion,is it better to thing the human being as agony than an animal for health?

Zombie Rodeo:Zombie Rodeo values all life. We humans tend to inflict pain also upon ourselves all time. I hope that answers your question.
