Aristocracy proudly presents its Twenty-first Interview today. This time, we will speak with an Italian band that mixes Power, Thrash and Death in the same sound. We talk with the guys from Celtic Hills and they show us their third album titled Huldufólk.The Band is formed by: Jonathan Vanderbilt on Guitar And Vocals, Jacopo Novello on Bass and Simone Cescutti on Drums. The whole band answered our questions. a song from them to start this exclusive interview in all their emotions.
A1:Talk about the songwriting in Huldufolk?
Celtic Hills:This is a gateway record between what was done up until Mystai Keltor and the next record.
A2:What message does the band want in the second song?
Celtic Hills:This song is a tribute to our PR Markus Eck.Markus spent a lot of time promoting the band and we named the song after his PR work for metal bands and we will be releasing a video dedicated to him soon.
A3:Is it fair to say that the ninth song on the album has some humor in it?
Celtic Hills:Exactly! and I'm glad you noticed. A little humor is needed in life!
A4:How does the band mix death, power, and thrash into your sound?
Celtic Hills:I guess it depends on the listening we've done over the years! So 80's influences are Helloween,Iron Maiden and Anthrax, 90's influences are Testament,Megadeth and bands from 2000 onwards are Children of Bodom, Amon Amarth.
A5:How did the invitation to Simone Cescutti emerge?
Celtic Hills:Simone is our drummer! He leaves the band and undertakes a personal career as singer and guitarist with his own band. Of course losing the drummer creates difficulties, but we must also encourage young people, so the idea was born to make him sing a song that is close to what he would like to do in his future as a soloist!
A6:What could the mythologies that permeate the band's songs teach current Italy in the cultural aspects you deal with most strongly?
Celtic Hills:The area of Italy where we live was under the Austro-Hungarian Empire for 5 centuries and we have been Italian since 1918 after World War I. Here there are many ethnic groups of different origins living together mixing different traditions and cultures. The best from each diversity has been taken. The lesson one should learn is to take the best of each culture and live in harmony.
A7:Why does the band have this name?
Celtic Hills:The area where we live is hilly. Before the arrival of the Romans in 183b.C. there were Celtic people living here, the KarKeltoy,so we chose a name that represents the roots of providence.
A8:Man is an animal who always carries a corpse on his back?
Celtic Hills:The human being lives on Earth to experience and evolve to a higher state of Consciousness. It is the choices we make that determine these experiences. We should only get rid of our burdens if we understand why we carry them.
A9:How is Celtic Hills different from your previous bands?
Celtic Hills:The first thing to note is that there are only 3 of us ! There are not many young bands with this lineup! ZZ TOP comes to mind. Many other power metal bands are in 5 or 6.
A10:What´s bands influence ours?
Celtic Hills:Many and very diverse, in addition to those mentioned before, there are bands now gone like the Ramones, but among the bands we listen to are Rammstain,Slipknot, the Germans RAGE.
A11:What kind of topic doesn't a Celtic Hills song deserve?
Celtic Hills:Instead I believe that any topic can be covered, just have an open mind and a thought that is reasoned! We've covered a lot of social topics in the various records: there's a philosophical focus in approaching the topics.
A12:What is the idea behind the album artwork?
Celtic Hills:We have always worked with a young girl Sheila Franco. We tell her what we would like to express conceptually through an image and she with her artistic sense transforms the emotions into a drawing.
A13:How did the band get to Elevate Records?
Celtic Hills:We had a dark period and we almost thought of giving up everything.Pino Magliani and Andrea Lanzillo of Elevate Records contacted us and convinced us to release a record and see how it would go.
A14:Is a powertrio band easier or more practical?
Celtic Hills:There are pros and cons! For example singing and playing guitar in the band at the same time is much more demanding than when you only have to sing or only play, but it is also true that in 3 you are more agile. To describe the idea think of how an elite commando moves and how a battalion with 1000 infantrymen moves! In 3 you are agile, but you are limited in "firepower".
A15:Is the album conceptual, yes or no and why?
Celtic Hills:It is not a concept, but it has an idea which consists in talking about people who, while remaining unknown, are carrying out great feats! We always tell interesting things and if they are well known facts,we try to observe them from different points of view to the majority of people.
A16:Does the band feel differences between Mystai Keltoy and now in Huldufólk?
Celtic Hills:Yes, there are and they are wanted.Mystai Leltoy has a more schizophrenic guitar rhythm while huldufolk is much more linear and melodic. we are already working on the next album which will be a mix of these two visions.
A17:Based on the songs on the album and your personal opinion, is it better to think of the human being as agony than an animal for health?
Celtic Hills:The human being has infinite potentials if channeled into a conscious vision of existence. The secret is to stay in harmony with creation, with the laws of nature and always remember that we are all brothers! I believe that philosophy and not religions can enlighten the traveler, not because religious thought is wrong, but because it has been corrupted by the human being. Life is a journey to gain experience and increase one's Awareness. Wars, hatred, envy are things that disturb Harmony. When you combine yellow with blue, green is born ... this is one of the rules of harmony ...
