The Aristocracy proudly presents its Twenty-Third Interview. This time,we talked to a Portuguese band that makes an aggressive and morbid sound. Provoking a terror aspect to life in society under a very evil optic. This evil energy generated the band's second album entitled as Delusion Of Consciousness. The band have this formation:Tiago Oliveira on Vocals,João Gomes and Pedro Almeida on Guitars,Eurico Mealha on Bass And Pedro Antunes on Drums. All band answer our questions.Let's go to one of their songs so that we can follow this conversation in all its emotions.
A1:Talking about the composition work in Delusion Of Consciousness?
The Chapter:First of all,we would like to thank you for the opportunity to present the band and our new record.Delusion Of Consciousness is heavier than the previous album since it was recorded with lower tunings. It’s an album where we’ve tried to explore a more modern sound, keeping the melodies, atmosphere, and drum beats that characterize us as a band since early days.We recorded Delusion Of Consciousness with our new vocalist, Tiago Oliveira, which gave the opportunity for the band to explore a heavier sound between the growls and clean passages, which made, in the end, a good mixture in the band sound.
A2:How band doing a morbid sounds?
The Chapter:To be honest, there isn’t a clear answer for that. It’s all part of the composition process along with the influences of each band member. The ideas are managed in a way to explore and deliver a great atmosphere and intensity.
A3:How long did the pre-production of this album take?
The Chapter:The pre-production took approximately one to two months.
A4:Is there a bit of stoner and sludge in band´s sound?
The Chapter:We leave the opinions for the listeners as long as they like it,that’s great for us.
A5:Does the last song on the album have any reference to the pandemic?
The Chapter:Social Solitude was composed before the pandemic hit but it fits perfectly to the times we are living in.The song describes a homeless living in a big metropolis, without any friends, home, or goods, living in social solitude and surrounded by people who don’t even notice he exists.
A6:Some literature or film inspire the band?
The Chapter:Well, some lyrics were inspired in criminal stories and some articles about disturbed minds and psychological illness. Then we mixed up and we’ve got some dark and powerful lyrics.
A7:How is The Chapter different from your previous bands?
The Chapter:We’ve started in 2004 but we explore a more modern sound nowadays,so somehow, it’s different from the 80s,90´s and early 2000s where we all were influenced by other bands and tendencies.
A8:Literally Speaking:Is the world ridiculous?
The Chapter:In some ways,it is.The world changes very rapidly nowadays,it’s a frenetic world and most of the time we don’t stop and realize the simple things in life.
A9:What´s the idea behind artwork´s album?
The Chapter:It wasn't easy to get an artwork that could refer to every song on the album, so we ended up focusing on the album title. We've chosen to have a character behind a black veil with a halo over her head, floating alone in a dark and cold environment. The character is unable to perceive the world around her because she cannot see or touch anything. The halo and veil work as a metaphor for something we blindly believe in but can't really perceive and use that as the only light that can guide us through the darkness.
A10:In the sixth song, does the band refer to the normal five senses or is it something more spiritual?
The Chapter:You meant the fifth song, Sentidos a Morrer right? It describes some physical moments, and it mentions the five senses “sentidos”, dying.Anyway,it's not focused on the five senses. It’s indeed more spiritual as the song describes the last moments before dying. That period when you still have some lucidity.
A11:Was making songs in your mother tongue something agreed, did it happen naturally or is it an initiative made so that words don't lose their meaning?
The Chapter:Doing the songs in our mother tongue was something discussed and seen as a challenge since we didn't write songs in Portuguese before. The lyrics of the song were already written, and we thought that would be a good idea to add the song in Portuguese on this album.
A12:What darkest aspect influence the band?
The Chapter:Nothing in particular.Anything can be an influence. In this album, the darkest influence was death.

A13:Is there a black humor in this album?
The Chapter:Not at All.
A14:This album is conceptual?yes or no and why?
The Chapter:The album was not intended to be conceptual. The album covers several social aspects, not only, but each song was composed individually.
A15:What is the true delusion of conscience that the band faces?
The Chapter:The band knows clearly that is very difficult to be successful in the Portuguese metal scene. So we have no doubt about it.The song delusion of consciousness is for everyone that thinks that this world we live in is real and not just a product of our conscience.
A16:Is it correct to say that you treat life in society from a pessimistic perspective?
The Chapter:Not really. There are always two sides and to be fulfilled and succeed on one side, you need to understand and realize the traps and dangers that can be faced along the way. If you would say that we prefer to explore society's pessimistic perspectives, that might be correct.
A17:The band feel differences between Angels & Demons and now in Delusion Of Consciousness?
The Chapter:Yes, we feel the differences between the two albums.Delusion Of Consciousness is more mature and heavier without losing the atmosphere and intensity that characterizes the band.
A18:Based on the songs of album and your own opinion,is it better to thing the human being as agony than an animal for health?
The Chapter:Our band doesn’t have political or human rights sides.
