We speak of our newsroom, where in a little while we will begin, in all its emotions, the interview 117 of the Aristocracy. This time, we spoke with a band that uses Funeral Doom in a different way than the said planning. Doing it differently is not the question, the question is that where they will come from is something unusual, but wonderful and with chances to progress even more.See that the pressure for good work will exist, but innovating will be the challenge. The first part of the challenge was well concluded. We are talking about the Iraqi duo Anthems Of Isolation and who showed at the end of April this year, their debut titled Apocalyptic Portrayals. Let's go to this spectacular chat right now. Well, we've already introduced the duo.Just a thank you to the duo and also to these two labels for fully helping the duo, they are Satanath Records and More Hate Productions. They also help our page to discover new wonders. Let's chat!

A1:Talking about the composition work in Apocalyptic Portrayals?

Erragal: We in AoI tends to be experimental in dealing with the funeral doom genre, we diverse between tempos and time signatures to serve a specific purpose to convey our musical message. In this album in specific, the composition took a simpler way to write music, infusion with back atmospheres to shape the structure, more repetition as we believe it is a way to fix the tunes into our audience minds.

A2:Why the song Deep Dark Ocean have two parts?

Karam Endzeit: Deep Dark Ocean has two parts because the 2nd one is continuation of the first one, it was written as one lyrics by me but it was too long to be one song so it was decided to make it two parts with musically similar feelings and intros to them.

A3:Why band use the drone in your sound?

Erragal: since the emergence of drone in early 70s, it brought another concept to absorbs music and the approach to reach ears and the state of mind it creates for the listeners, we believe this is among the basics to convey doom music and make it more efficient for the musical experience.

A4:How doing hypnotic sounds with eastern melodic traditions?

ErraGal:The eastern scales are among the best fusions to metal music in general, since we have Mesopotamia roots and we are located in this exact location of the world, such tunes are built in our minds and the way we write and listen to music.

A5:What dystopia inspire the band?

Karam Endzeit: Dystopia is inspiring because I see it as a close representation of reality, the reality where we live and where we are headed to. On the other hand, showing the dark side or the dark end of things can be a way to say that a change is needed.

A6:What´s the idea behind artwork´s album?

Karam Endzeit: the artwork is originally a painting by Erra Gal's brother for Baghdad, we chose that one because it looks like a city in ruins which goes with the lyrical concept of the album, the second reason was that it has colors in it, unlike most of doom album covers that are mostly very dark, black or grey.

A7:Why this album is conceptual?

Karam Endzeit: it's considered a conceptual album because all the songs are based on the same theme which is the end of the world, everything is told from the prospective of a person in depression feeling that his world is ending and how everything in it can feel like a hopeless pursuit but it can also apply to the situation of the world we live it in general. the tracklist begins with the signs of what's about to happen in "Signs Of Cataclysm" and ends with "Darkness at the End of the Tunnel".

A8:Some literature or film inspire the duo?

Erra gal: Many arts inspired me personally, but within this album i would say Hard Times by Charles Dickens and Stalker film by Andrei Tarkovsky.

A9:What dark truth in the Anthems Of Isolation sound?

Erra gal: I would give the answer to our audience, we in AoI believe that a ears are the main target and how it convoys our message to the mind, the truth lies within each individual and how they see the world through music.

Karam Endzeit: it's a matter of prospective, what is seen as dark by someone can be seen as inspiring by another.

A10:Besides the nihilistic things, what inspire this album?

Karam Endzeit: I would say the times of quarantine when COVID19 hit was a source of inspiration to writing lyrics for me, it seemed like the world was falling apart which can create negative feelings inside a person so it felt like a wave of inspiration that came back then and helped me write the lyrics almost non-stop.

A11:How hard is doing an mysterious atmosphere?

Erra gal: it depends on the mentality of the composer and how to define any atmosphere, it mainly rely on how much spirituality you can create through your music than the skills and talent in writing, we don’t tend to deal with it as mathematics, we set our improvise free to discover the realms of music.

A12:How band arrive to Satanath Records and More Hate Productions?

Karam Endzeit: it all happened through Facebook, I texted Aleksy of Satanath Records because I saw his work with other underground bands and the quality of what he offered was better than others, he liked the album and from there we set our release date and he managed distribution and everything else.

A13:Istanbul and Baghdad are brothers in your songs?

Erra gal:Me and Karam are both from Iraq. Different locations never limited our will.

A14:Modern musical or exotic hints of melody is more latent in your sound?

Erra gal: i believe we are drowning within modern approaches, i personally believe that sticking to classical approaches is not practically efficient anymore, we shall embrace classical tides with modernization theories. As we said, we are being experimental here, yet that doesn’t mean our next release will keep things the same.

A15:The band likes stoner or sludge sound?

Erra gal:Myself, i appreciate these sub genres, specially when it fuses with psychedelic tunes, bands like Dark Buddha Rising and Oranssi Pazuzu are extremely enjoyable to me.

A16:What would you say to yourselves on the duo's first day of rehearsal?

Erra gal: i said and always say, AoI is a portal to our both mentalities, it is not a profession, its a way to reflect our feelings.

Karam Endzeit: AOI is something that definitely helped expressing feelings for me and to see all these thoughts represented in an official album release feels very rewarding.
