We speak again of our newsroom, where in a little while, we will have, in all its emotions, the interview 137 of the Aristocracy. This time, we're going to talk to an international hard rock band. A band that brings melodic work, full of blues and maturity. We're talking about the band Serpents In Paradise, which is a band that doesn't have a fixed vocalist, but even so, shows their debut work entitled Temptation. Before we put the complete album for you, we must thank the band and our noble friend Davide Pulitto for introducing us to this excellent band. Let's start the interview now!Tobias Answer our Questions.
A1:Hi, let’s talk about the composition work in “Temptation”?
Tobias Eurich:Hey, yes it was something very special. While lockdowns and no live gigs there was plenty of time to write songs. And so I had the chance to try a lot of things and change parts until the songs sounded like I wanted them to.Also we had no deadline or boundaries, this gave us huge freedom and makes the record sound authentical.
A2:Why is the third song a question?
Tobias Eurich:Because I often ask myself where the rock n roll is gone today. Everyone wants fresh and new masterpieces and many people say there will be no more stadium bands and stuff... For me, this is no surprise when everyone who tries to be different or does not fit in our system is sorted out. Also the “Rock is dead” interview from Gene Simmons inspired me as well.
A3: I liked the blues feeling of the band, but how was that been worked by the band?
Tobias Eurich:Thank you, I like it, too.It was kind of a natural process. We wanted to create something real and authentic.Just some passionate rock music. We all like these music, the attitude and spirit something that I miss in today's music and so a grooving rhythm with some guitars and a powerful voice is all you need.
A4:Some literature or film inspire the band?
Tobias Eurich:Everything can be an inspiration.Every song, every movie or emotion in daily business can inspire you. For example the Netflix biopic “The Dirt”,I know it's kinda cheesy but I love this movie is perfect to get psyched. Or all the impressions while driving are perfect to create new songs.
A5:Be sure that I admire the hard rock made by your band a lot, but have you had previous experiences in this style?
Tobias Eurich:Yes indeed. In 2014, I played in a band called “Strangelet” and we released a really cool album. After that I played guitars in “SpiteFuel” more heavy rock/heavy metal and we had 3 releases from 2016 to 2019.
A6:Who is the Mojo Man?
Tobias Eurich:Haha, I think everyone knows the situation to have a crush on somebody or be someone's. And sometimes timing is a bich.
A7:I believe many themes were brought up on this album, but is there a frequent point?
Tobias Eurich:I would say, life's a journey and we have to keep on moving. That's my conclusion from the past two and a half years. The show must go on.
A8:Not that I think that's wrong, but how did the invitations for these amazing vocalists come about?
Tobias Eurich:When we finished the demos we had no singer.I had the feeling that these songs need something special, something unique. For every song,I had a clear vision. When I write a song I first have to finish it in my head, the whole thing, the arrangement, the sound, the mood and so on. After that I start to write it down and do some demos And so we used this “issue” to give every song exact the wanted sound.
A9:What´s the idea behind the artwork?
Tobias Eurich:It's quite easy. It's a scenery from the Garden of Eden. It was clear to us to have a reference to the band name and the album title. And a snake with an apple was kind of obvious.
A10:Who's being Overrated on the eighth song?
Tobias Eurich:Everyone on this lovely planet who's thinking he or she is better than you for any dumbass reason. I'm so sick of all these people thinking they're special for having a bigger car or a better job.
A11:Is this album conceptual?
Tobias Eurich:Nope!
A12:Does the sixth song have an upbeat context?
Tobias Eurich:Sun May Shine is a quite positive song. There are so much bad news these days and the last couple of month'. But after every dark night, there will be a new dawn.
A13:The tenth song has a double meaning right? If so, what would it be?
Tobias Eurich:Many of my lyrics are ambiguous. I like it to combine different topics or hide the actual meaning behind something more simple. But in the end it is not important what I want to say but what it means to the listener.
A14:Of the guest vocalists, will any of them stay in Serpents In Paradise?
Tobias Eurich:As you said they were guests and I'm very thankful and proud I had the chance to work with these guys. So for the moment I cannot say who will be the singers on the next album. For live gigs there is a chance to see one or two of the guests on stage as well.
A15:Can you explain the ninth song, please?
Tobias Eurich:“Get Lost Again” is a classic blues, I really like this song. It's a very emotional song and has a great guitar solo. I had a great co-work with the singer of this song Alex Kühner and he performs it just fantastic. I think life is not that shiny all the time and sometimes you have to struggle with yourself.
A16:Guns'n Roses, Bon Jovi, Skid Row! Which of these bands is similar to Serpents In Paradise and why?
Tobias Eurich:None of them. Because no band or person is similar to anyone else and I don't want to imitate nobody. We as a band have our influences and as a whole it sums up and creates something new. For sure I love all of these bands and I would die to have the chance to be in 1987 to see their rise and fall by myself unfortunately, I'm too young. All of them and many more have their influences on us but I don't want to sound like or look like,I want the people to say, this sounds like the Serpents.Thank you for the interview and your time!
Cheers,Tobi!
